Pressure-Mounted - Installation - My Gate Is Just Short, but Too Long with an Extension

Modified on Wed, 2 Jul at 2:04 PM

If your opening is right in that tricky in-between range - slightly too wide for the gate alone, but too narrow once you add an extension - you’re not alone! Unfortunately, pressure-mounted gates don’t offer much flexibility for those “sweet spot” sizes.

What Can Help?

If you're only out by a centimetre or two, some customers have had success with the following:

  • Adjusting the gate’s angle slightly within the doorway

  • Using a thin spacer behind the wall cups to help bridge the small gap

DIY Spacer Ideas:

Here are some common materials that can be used as thin spacers behind the wall cups:

  • Rubber furniture pads – Soft, grippy, and won’t damage walls. Great for small gaps.

  • Thin plywood or MDF offcuts – Rigid and easy to trim to size.

  • Hard plastic shims – Found at most hardware stores; used in door/window installations.

  • Cork sheets or tiles – Easy to cut and add a bit of cushioning.

Note: While we can’t officially recommend modifying the installation, we understand how frustrating these in-between sizes can be. If you do choose to use spacers or make adjustments, it is the customer’s responsibility to ensure the gate remains stable, secure, and suitable for your space.
