What different types of baby gates are there?

There are several types of baby gates and barriers designed to suit different spaces and needs within your home. Here’s a quick guide to the main styles:

Pressure-Mounted Gates

These gates stay in place using pressure against walls or door frames – no drilling required. They’re quick to install and remove, making them ideal for temporary setups in doorways and hallways.

Hardware-Mounted Gates

Also known as wall-mounted gates, these are screwed into the wall for a secure, permanent fit. They offer greater stability and are recommended for the top or bottom of staircases and high-traffic areas.

Retractable Gates

These gates use a mesh panel that pulls across an opening and rolls back when not in use. They’re great for wide openings and can be used both indoors and outdoors.

Playpens & Barriers

Playpens create a freestanding enclosed play area. Most can also be wall-mounted and used as a room divider or extra-wide barrier – perfect for stair bases or irregular spaces.
